The Hector´s dolphin is the smallest in the dolphin family. It can only be found in New Zealand. A possibility to observe these playful dolphins offers itself with a ship tour of Akaroa.

There is actually no ship tour where the possibility of the dolphin observation doesn't present itself.

The Kauri-Twins Darby & Joan decorates different postcards.

Only in the north of the North Island are the gigantic Kauri trees. The Tane Mabute (God of the Forest) is the biggest and eldest of them. It is high over 51m and about 2000 years old! It can be seen in the Waipoua Kauri Forest.

For friends of whales, a whale watching tour from Kaikoura is a must. Through the exceptionally good natural conditions, water, rich of minerals, coming from the mountains, cold ocean current (more than 1000m low tides in coastal proximity) whales can be observed with guarantee. Back whales can be seen in June and July, sword whales (=Killer whales / Orca) in the summer and Sperm whales from April until June. Here, Sperm whales are diving straight into the depths, searching for food.
